Lot 4033
1876 $20 Liberty. NGC graded MS-63. A rare coin in this mint state, especially in choice condition. Blazing yellow gold luster and a sharp strike on all the devices, there are scattered handling marks, but Liberty's face is generally clean for the grade. Identifiable by a small tick on the R of TRUST on the reverse and in NGC holder #222666-006. NGC has only graded 16 this high, and importantly 4 higher of this Centennial date. Further, this is a scarce Type II double eagle, which makes it highly desirable in this grade. A good coin to put away.

Lot 4048
1892-CC $20 Liberty. PCGS graded MS-62. A rare coin in this grade! Well struck by the dies, with full stars and hair on the obverse, the reverse with lettering and feathers, and again, no signs of weakness. Strong mint bloom and luster, overlayed with a rich coppery gold color. Scattered marks, expected on these large, heavy coins, but they are not deep or distracting. Liberty's face is generally clean, with no deep gouges or other problems that often mar coins in this grade. PCGS has graded only 15 this high, and importantly, just 4 higher, all MS-63 above! Hence, this is one of the better ones known of this date. As the gold started to play out in Carson City, the erratic mintages also fell, and by 1892, only 27,265 double eagles were coined. Most of these were lost or later melted, and few remain for collectors today, especially in such lofty grades. As 1893 unfolded, a sharp depression swept America, and this was the final blow to the Carson City Mint, which closed its doors and ceased operations as a Mint.
Estimated Value $5,000 - 6,000.

Lot 4066
1897 $20 Liberty. PCGS graded Proof 64 Premium Quality. One of the finest graded of this date in Proof, we note that the fields show magnificent orange peel texture which was absolutely perfected during the years 1870 to about 1900. This particular coin boasts well frosted devices with a touch of haze in the fields on both sides. Philadelphia coined just 86 pieces in proof, as demand was just not that strong, and few collectors could afford to order a coin that cost so much in face value, let alone pay a small premium. The fields show a few minor hairlines, as seen on virtually every proof gold coin to some degree. Identifiable by a small lint mark below the right side of the N in UNITED, and in PCGS holder #6582614. PCGS has graded only 10 this high (some are Deep Cameos which are included), and 3 higher.
Estimated Value $25,000-UP.
